HTPC Fail
Well, I wouldn't call it a fail, but simply an exercise in frugality. I was getting all ready to buy all the components to build my very own HTPC. I had bookmarked each component and posted them on a Pinterest page that I had newly created just for the event. I researched OpenElec and XBMC and pinned some how-to pages on my new board. Then, I realized that I was already doing all I need to do all along. I was already putting movies for my son on to my Playstation 3 hard drive for easy access, why not just put the rest of my movies on to my PS3 as well? All I would need to do is install a larger hard drive. I was motivated toward this option by a trial run with XBMC by connecting my laptop to my HDTV via HDMI. A trial that resulted in me scratching my head as to why there was no sound coming through my television speakers when I played a movie. It was going to take more effort and money that just plopping a new hard drive into my playstation. So here I am, slowly moving media on to my PS3 from my laptop. I uninstalled Plex, XBMC, and PS3 media server since I have always been met with streaming errors when streaming to my xbox or playstation. I may not have that satisfaction I would have gotten from building my own pc, but I did get to pull apart SOME hardware and I'm the only one of my friends to do so.
